About the practice

A medical practice that happens to be beautiful

Lumen opened in 2016 with one treatment room and one rule that has not changed since: nobody is treated on a first visit until a provider has assessed their skin and written the plan down.

How we got here

Before this practice existed, our medical director spent a decade in clinical medicine and a few years watching patients arrive at aesthetic clinics with a treatment already chosen — picked from an advertisement, a friend, or a video — and be sold exactly that.

Lumen was built to reverse the order. You come in, someone qualified looks at your skin, asks what you are actually bothered by, and then tells you what is worth doing. Sometimes that is less than you expected. Sometimes it is nothing at all, and the honest answer is a better sunscreen and six weeks.

Ten years on we have four rooms, three licensed providers, and a patient list that has grown almost entirely by referral. The consultation is still forty-five minutes, and it is still the appointment we care most about getting right.

“The plan gets written down, priced, and handed to you — whether or not you book anything.”

What is different here

01

Consultation first, always

Every new patient starts with a 45-minute assessment. Nothing is treated on that visit unless you have had time to think about it and you ask us to.

02

One plan, in writing

You leave with the plan on paper: what was recommended, what it costs, how far apart the appointments sit, and what we advised against.

03

A physician in the building

Injectable and laser appointments are scheduled for hours when our medical director is on site, and every new plan is reviewed before treatment begins.

04

We are willing to say no

If a treatment is not appropriate for your skin, your history, or your timing, we will tell you and explain the reasoning rather than book you anyway.

The providers

Three licensed providers. Credentials are listed as they are held, not as marketing.

Dr. Ayo Adeyemi

Dr. Ayo AdeyemiMD

Medical Director

Ayo opened the practice after a decade in clinical medicine, on the view that aesthetic treatment should be run the way a medical clinic is run: assess first, document everything, and be willing to say no. He writes the protocols every provider here works to, reviews each new patient plan before treatment begins, and keeps injectable and laser appointments to hours when he is on site.

Riya Shah

Riya ShahNP-C

Nurse Practitioner & Lead Injector

Riya sees most of our injectable patients and runs the majority of new patient consultations. Her approach is conservative by design — she would rather treat a little, review at two weeks, and add than start from a place you cannot undo. Patients tend to describe her consultations as the longest they have had anywhere, which she takes as the point rather than the problem.

Tomás Herrera

Tomás HerreraLE

Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Tomás handles peels, microneedling, and the skin care planning that sits underneath everything else we do. He is the person who will talk you out of a nine-step routine, because the regimen that gets followed is the one built around the mornings you actually have. He works with acne-prone and reactive skin in particular, and he sees patients back at six weeks to adjust rather than assuming the first plan was right.

What a first visit looks like

Four steps, about forty-five minutes, no treatment on the day unless you ask for it.

  1. One

    Assessment

Medical history, medications, sun exposure, and anything you have had done before. Your skin is examined under magnification.

  2. Two

    Discussion

What each option involves, how it is carried out, what the downtime is, what the aftercare requires, and what it costs. Questions are the point.

  3. Three

    Written plan

You leave with the plan on paper, priced, with intervals marked. Your consultation fee is applied to your first treatment.

  4. Four

    Treatment and review

Treatment is booked as a separate appointment, and a review is scheduled afterwards so we can see how your skin responded and adjust.

How we handle safety

Medical aesthetics is medicine. These are standing rules at the practice, not preferences, and any provider here can recite them.

  • Every provider holds a current licence, and it is displayed at reception.
  • Every new patient plan is reviewed by the medical director before treatment begins.
  • Pre-treatment skin assessment, and patch testing wherever the treatment calls for it.
  • Written aftercare instructions, plus a number you can call outside opening hours.
  • Product, quantity, and placement are recorded at every appointment.
  • Some treatments are not appropriate during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or alongside certain medications — we ask, every time.

“Clean, calm, and everything is explained before it happens. Tomás built me a skincare plan that actually fits my routine.”

“I appreciated that Dr. Adeyemi reviewed my plan personally. It feels like a medical practice, not a spa that happens to own a laser.”
